Mendelow Consulting Group founder and owner, Laura Mendelow, was interviewed on Dannielle Hawk's "Women Lead Change" podcast. In the interview, Laura talks about change initiatives at two levels—large-scale changes to influence an organizational culture, such as initiatives that change the role or expectations for all front-line leaders in an organization, as well as changes that impact a team or family unit.

Highlights from the discussion:
  • Many women in leadership roles are looking to male role models and mentors for guidance. Women can sometimes fall into a trap of emulating traditionally male behaviors, which can seem inauthentic. Women who are particularly successful at leading change initiatives find a way to ebb and flow between traditionally masculine and feminine traits as warranted by the situation--while being authentic.
  • As leaders communicate in times of change, the best leaders keep it real. They share the "brutal facts" of a situation, including openly discussing the elephants in the room such as layoffs or other challenges. At the same time, they will also express optimism and hope for the future.
